The President will depart for Seoul, Republic of Korea for his first trip to Asia as President. The President will visit the Republic of Korea and Japan to further deepen ties between our governments and economies to deliver for people at home and in the region. This trip will advance the Biden-Harris Administration’s rock-solid commitment to a free and open Indo-Pacific and to U.S. treaty alliances with the Republic of Korea and Japan. It will build on more than a year of intensive diplomacy with the Indo-Pacific, including the U.S.-ASEAN Special Summit held last week in Washington, DC.

The President will arrive in Seoul, Republic of Korea, where he will remain until Sunday, May 22, when he will travel to Tokyo, Japan.

US TREASURY

Wednesday – Secretary of the Treasury Janet L. Yellen will travel to Bonn, Germany, where on Thursday, May 19 and and Friday, May 20, she will represent the United States at the G7 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors Meeting. During the G7 Ministerial, Secretary Yellen will reinforce the U.S. commitment to multilateralism and advance U.S. policy priorities on an inclusive economic recovery. Secretary Yellen and U.S. allies will also continue their united efforts to support Ukraine and to increase economic pressure on Russia to end its brutal and illegal war. She will also work with her counterparts to advance a minimum global corporate tax as a part of a foreign policy for the middle class, address energy security and the threat of global food insecurity resulting from Russia’s unprovoked war, and strengthen the global health architecture.

At 9 AM ET/ 3 PM CEST, Secretary Yellen will host a press conference in advance of the G7 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors Meeting. This event is open to pre-approved media; the press conference will also be livestreamed at https://www.youtube.com/c/USTreasGov.

STATE DEPARTMENT

Wednesday: US Secty of State Antony Blinken appears on CBS’s Colbert show at 11:30p ET. In-person news briefings, when held, are about 2p ET.

On Wednesday, May 18, Ambassador Katherine Tai will travel to Bangkok, Thailand for the 2022 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Ministers Responsible for Trade Meeting. .

Wednesday – The next meeting is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. on May 18, 2022..

US SENATE
