White House and Other Schedules for Friday, March 17

WASHINGTON (MaceNews) – The following are Friday’s schedules for the White House, Treasury, USTR, the State Department and Capitol Hill as well as U.S. economic data and Federal Reserve events:
 

DAILY GUIDANCE AND PRESS SCHEDULE 
FOR FRIDAY, MARCH 17, 2023 

 
In the morning, the President will receive the President’s Daily Brief. This meeting will be closed press.

Later, the President will host H.E. Leo Varadkar, Taoiseach of Ireland, for a bilateral meeting at the White House. The leaders will reaffirm the close and historic partnership between the United States and Ireland and the extraordinary bonds between our people. They will discuss their countries’ shared commitment to continue supporting Ukraine in the face of Russia’s brutal aggression, as well as their cooperation on a range of other global issues. They will reaffirm their steadfast support for the Belfast/Good Friday Agreement as we approach its 25th anniversary and welcome the recent agreement between the UK and EU on the Windsor Framework as an important step in preserving the Agreement’s peace dividend. This bilateral meeting in the Oval Office will have an in-house pool spray at the top.

In the afternoon, the President will attend the Friends of Ireland Caucus St. Patrick’s Day Luncheon in Washington, DC. This event at the United States Capitol Building, Washington, DC will have an in-town travel pool spray at the bottom. The departure from and arrival to the South Grounds will be covered by the in-town travel pool.

In the evening, the President hosts H.E. Leo Varadkar, Taoiseach of Ireland, for a Shamrock presentation and reception at the White House. The Vice President and the Second Gentleman will attend. This event in the East Room will be pooled for TV and open to pre-credentialed media.

Later, the President will depart the White House en route to Wilmington, Delaware. The departure from the South Lawn will be open press. The arrival at Delaware Air National Guard Base, New Castle, Delaware will be covered by the out-of-town pool.

 US TREASURY

Friday  –    Secretary of the Treasury Janet L. Yellen will attend a meeting with the National Governors Association to discuss President Biden’s plan to invest in America, lower costs and grow the economy, as well as recent actions to ensure the U.S. banking system continues to perform its vital roles of protecting deposits and providing access to credit to households and businesses. The meeting is closed press. 

STATE DEPT

Friday –   Departmental press briefings, when held on weekdays, occur around 2p ET. Secrty Blinken is in Niger in the final day of his Ethiopia-Niger tour.

USTR

Friday – Ambassador Tai will participate in a roundtable visit with members of Houston’s Kenya Diaspora.   Ambassador Tai will share how USTR is working to strengthen the U.S. – Kenya bilateral relationship and provide updates on the U.S.– Kenya Strategic Trade and Investment Partnership.
