Eurostat: Final Feb Inflation in Euro Area +0.9%/Feb

ZURICH (MaceNews) – Inflation in the Euro-area rose 0.9 percent in February, confirming the preliminary figure, Eurostat reported Wednesday.

The February result matched the median of an Econoday survey of economist’s forecasts and was the same rate as in January. On a monthly basis, prices rose 0.2 percent.

The overall gain was mitigated by a decline in energy prices, down 1.7 percent year-over-year, excluding which the overall inflation rate was 1.2 percent year-over-year.

Services contributed the most to the price gain with .55 percentage points, followed by food, alcohol and tobacco prices adding .29 percentage points, according to the report.

For the broader European Union, prices were up 1.3 percent in February on an annual basis, up from 1.2 percent in January. Germany’s inflation was 1.6 percent year-on-year and 1.9 percent in The Netherlands, Eurostat said.
Eurostat will release the flash HCPI estimate on March 31 at 11:00am Central European time.
