ZURICH(MaceNews) – Inflation in the Euro-area increased in March, rising 1.3% year-over-year, driven higher by rising energy costs, according to data released by Eurostat.
The March result matched the median forecast of an Econoday survey of economists, and was well above the 0.9% rate in February. Compared to a month ago, prices also rose 0.9%, Eurostat said.
Energy costs rose 4.3% in March from a year ago after declines of 4.2% and 1.7% in January and February, respectively. Taking out energy costs, overall inflation rose 1.0% from March of last year.
Inflation in the large economies exceeding the headline number were:
- Germany +0.5% M/M; +2.0% Y/Y
- France +0.7% M/M; +1.4% Y/Y
- Netherlands + 0.3% M/M; +1.9% Y/Y
