US TREASURY

Friday – Secretary of the Treasury Janet L. Yellen will travel to the coal mining region of Mpumalanga. While there, the Secretary will underline the U.S. commitment to South Africa’s Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP). The tour will include a U.S. funded job training facility that is providing skills to local women to prepare them to work in the renewable energy sector. In addition to the tour, Secretary Yellen will also participate in a roundtable with women who are participating in the job training programs and will deliver brief remarks. The event is open to pre-approved media.

Secretary Yellen will meet with a coalition of leading climate philanthropists who at COP27, announced an investment of $500 million over the next three years to accelerate a just and equitable energy transition in low and middle-income countries, while boosting sustainable development and creating new economic opportunities. At the lunch, Secretary Yellen will highlight the pledge and receive updates on the status of launching these investments in South Africa. At the top of the meeting the Secretary will deliver brief remarks. The event is open to pre-approved media. Secretary Yellen will tour the Apartheid Museum. This event is open to pre-approved media.

STATE DEPT

USTR   At 1:00 PM, Ambassador Katherine Tai and Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken host a virtual ministerial event for the Americas Partnership for Economic Prosperity, a regional framework for cooperation to promote inclusive economic growth and strengthen regional competitiveness announced by President Biden at the Summit of the Americas. 

US HOUSE

Friday – The next meeting is scheduled for 9:00 a.m. on January 27, 2023.
