US TREASURY
Monday – Secretary Yellen will depart for Toronto, Canada. She will participate in meetings and events with Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland. The trip will be her first to Canada as Secretary of the Treasury. Throughout, Secretary Yellen will reinforce the common priorities shared by the U.S. and Canada in securing global stability and prosperity. The Secretary will emphasize that the U.S. deeply values its collaboration with Canada, its close ally and largest trading partner, on a range of issues including improving manufacturing and supply chains and lowering prices for consumers, efforts to maximize economic pressures on Russia, and shared support for the Ukrainian people.
At 9:55 AM ET, Secretary Yellen will participate in a bilateral meeting with Deputy Prime Minister Freeland. This meeting will be closed press; there will be a photo spray with brief remarks at the top.
At 1:00 PM ET, Secretary Yellen will participate in a fireside chat conversation with Deputy Prime Minister Freeland, which will be moderated by Beata Caranci, Chief Economist and Senior Vice President of TD Bank Group. The event will be hosted by Canada 2020 and take place at the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management. Due to limited capacity, the event will be open to pre-credentialed media. At 2:15 PM ET, Secretary Yellen and Deputy Prime Minister Freeland will visit the MaRS Discovery District, an innovation hub with over 100 tenants including research labs and start-ups. Secretary Yellen and Deputy Prime Minister Freeland will tour Evoco Ltd., a material innovation company that supplies foam to U.S. companies for a wide range of goods including shoes, mattresses, automotive interiors and other products. The Secretary and Deputy Prime Minister will discuss the importance of cross border economic partnerships to keep costs down for consumers. The Secretary and Deputy Prime Minister will visit Evoco’s lab, where the company develops its plant-based, renewable materials. There will be an opportunity for pre-credentialed media to capture still photos and video of the tour. Following the tour, at 3:30 PM ET, there will be a media availability in the auditorium at MaRS with Secretary Yellen and Deputy Prime Minister Freeland.
