White House and Other Schedules for Monday, May 16

WASHINGTON (MaceNews)—The following are Monday’s schedules for the White House, Treasury, USTR, the State Department and Capitol Hill as well as US data and Federal Reserve events: 

DAILY GUIDANCE AND PRESS SCHEDULE FOR
MONDAY, MAY 16, 2022  

In the morning, the President will receive the President’s Daily Brief. This meeting will be closed press.
 
Then, the President will award Public Safety Officer Medals of Valor for “extraordinary valor above and beyond the call of duty.” This ceremony in the East Room will be open to pre-credentialed media and pooled for TV. [RSVP here by 8:00 AM EDT]
 
In the afternoon, the President will hold a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis of the Hellenic Republic, where they will affirm our strong bilateral partnership and celebrate 201 years of Greek independence. The leaders will discuss ongoing efforts with Allies and partners to support the people of Ukraine and impose economic costs on Russia for its unprovoked aggression. This meeting in the Oval Office will have a pool spray at the top.
 
After, the President and the First Lady will host a reception in honor of the Prime Minister of the Hellenic Republic and Mrs. Mitsotaki in the East Room. This event will be open to pre-credentialed media and pooled for TV. [RSVP here by 10:00 AM EDT]

The President and the First Lady will host a reception to celebrate Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Heritage Month in the Rose Garden.
 
Thursday, May 19, 2022
 
The President will depart for Seoul, Republic of Korea for his first trip to Asia as President. The President will visit the Republic of Korea and Japan to further deepen ties between our governments and economies to deliver for people at home and in the region. This trip will advance the Biden-Harris Administration’s rock-solid commitment to a free and open Indo-Pacific and to U.S. treaty alliances with the Republic of Korea and Japan. It will build on more than a year of intensive diplomacy with the Indo-Pacific, including the U.S.-ASEAN Special Summit held last week in Washington, DC.
 
Friday, May 20, 2022
 
The President will arrive in Seoul, Republic of Korea, where he will remain until Sunday, May 22, when he will travel to Tokyo, Japan.

US TREASURY

Monday – On May 16, in Warsaw, Secretary of the Treasury Janet L. Yellen will meet with Mateusz Morawiecki, the Prime Minister of Poland; Finance Minister Magdalena Rzeczkowska of Poland; National Bank of Poland Governor Adam Glapiński; and Mark Brzezinski, the U.S. Ambassador to Poland.

Throughout, Secretary Yellen will discuss the war’s impact on Poland’s economy, particularly on inflation, fiscal policy, and supply chains. Secretary Yellen will also express her gratitude for the generosity Poland has shown in welcoming refugees, address the rising threat of food insecurity, and discuss the agreement on new international tax rules, including a global minimum tax that will raise crucial revenues that will benefit the citizens of both countries. Bilateral meetings with the Prime Minister and Finance Minister will have photo sprays for pre-approved media. The meeting between Secretary Yellen and National Bank of Poland Governor Glapiński is closed press. In the morning local time, Secretary Yellen will visit the Wilcza Hostel and World Central Kitchen (WCK) facility for Ukrainian refugees, where she will spotlight the work of WCK to provide meals to Ukrainian refugees, and highlight Treasury’s ongoing efforts to address the food security challenges facing the region and world.

In the afternoon local time, Secretary Yellen will visit the POLIN Museum of the History of Polish Jews, on the site of the former Warsaw Ghetto.  The Museum showcases the important history of Jews in Poland over the past thousand years and stands directly across from the Monument to the Ghetto Heroes, which commemorates the 1943 Warsaw Ghetto Uprising. Secretary Yellen will give brief remarks and lay a wreath at the Monument to the Ghetto Heroes. This event is open to pre-approved media.

In the evening local time, Secretary Yellen will travel to Brussels, Belgium.
