Monday – Secretary of the Treasury Janet L. Yellen will host the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Finance Ministers Retreat and Meeting in San Francisco, California. Secretary Yellen will also hold bilateral engagements with counterparts and participate in events on the margins of the meetings. During her time in San Francisco, Secretary Yellen will continue to deepen the United States’ economic ties across the Asia-Pacific region, work with her counterparts on strengthening the regional economy, and advance the priorities she outlined in her speech on the Biden Administration’s economic approach towards the Indo-Pacific. This includes working together with regional partners to increase trade and investment, strengthen economic resilience, and address global challenges. Secretary Yellen will also stress that deeper economic ties bring tremendous potential benefits for the U.S. economy and for the Indo-Pacific region. Deepening economic ties in the region has been a focus of Secretary Yellen’s tenure – which includes visits to six APEC members in the last two years.
