Chief Malerba is the first Native American person to serve as the nation’s Treasurer. Chief Malerba’s appointment as Treasurer will mean that for the first time in U.S. history, the signatures of a Native woman and a female Secretary of the Treasury will soon be seen on the nation’s currency.
