US TREASURY

Thursday – Secretary of the Treasury  Janet L. Yellen will travel to Cleveland, Ohio and join Senator Sherrod Brown to highlight the Biden Administration’s work to rebuild American manufacturing in communities across the country. At 11:20 AM, Secretary Yellen and Senator Brown will deliver remarks to help celebrate the opening of the new headquarters of the Manufacturing Advocacy and Growth Network (MAGNET), a Cleveland-based non-profit that helps small- and mid-sized manufacturers grow through consulting support, assistance for start-ups, and workforce development.

MAGNET is part of the Manufacturing Extension Partnership through the National Institute of Standards and Technology and the state of Ohio. These remarks will be open to pre-credential press. Ahead of her remarks, Secretary Yellen will hold a roundtable discussion at MAGNET with Cleveland-area manufacturers followed by a tour of the new headquarters. The roundtable and tour will have a spray at the top for pre-credential press.

During her remarks, Secretary Yellen will discuss how the President’s economic agenda has made historic investments in American manufacturing in communities like Cleveland – and is working to ensure economic opportunity beyond the coasts. The Secretary will highlight how the historically quick economic recovery under President Biden has helped create almost 700,000 manufacturing jobs. Secretary Yellen will also note how the trifecta of economic legislation passed by President Biden – the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, the CHIPS and Science Act, and the Inflation Reduction Act – are already helping drive historic manufacturing investments like Intel’s semiconductor fab in central Ohio, and over $100 billion in private sector funding for electric vehicle production, battery factories, and charging infrastructure.

While in Cleveland, Secretary Yellen will also have lunch with local elected officials and highlight support for cities and states through the American Rescue Plan. This lunch will have a spray at the top for pre-credential press. Later, the Secretary will also meet with local business leaders at the Greater Cleveland Partnership. This meeting is closed press. Livestream for the event is available here.
