Yellen will attend events in Lusaka, Zambia. At 10AM CAT / 3AM ET, Secretary Yellen will visit a Green Climate Fund (GCF) project supported by the U.S. government. The Green Climate Fund has received over $1 billion in funding from the U.S. government. While there, she will meet with female savings co-op members, and also view a typical Zambian small-holding farm. Following the tour, she will deliver brief remarks on food security and the global challenges exacerbating it. The event is open to pre-approved media. At 2PM CAT / 7AM ET, Secretary Yellen will visit Java Foods Limited, a woman-owned company that produces low-cost, nutritionally fortified instant noodles, targeting low-income urban consumers and sources 100% of its wheat from Zambian farmers. Java has worked under USAID’s Feed the Future program and with the US Partnership for Food Solutions, a non-profit founded by General Mills that now includes Cargill, the Hershey Company, Smucker’s, and other major U.S. food companies. She will participate in a tour of the factory floor meet some of its employees and highlight U.S – Africa efforts to tackle food insecurity. The event is open to pre-approved media.
