 TREASURY DEPT –

Wednesday –  Secretary of the Treasury Janet L. Yellen will travel to Norcross, Georgia to tour and deliver remarks at a Suniva solar cell manufacturing plant, which is reopening this spring. Secretary Yellen’s visit to Suniva will highlight how President Biden’s Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) is onshoring clean energy manufacturing and lowering energy costs for consumers. Creating good-paying jobs, increasing energy security by building resilient supply chains, and lowering costs are central tenets of the Biden Administration’s Investing in America agenda. The U.S. has achieved record domestic oil and natural gas production to help keep energy costs low over the short-term, and President Biden’s clean energy investments will help further reduce energy costs for families over time – including through tax breaks for new clean power and home energy efficiency. For example, the IRA makes it cheaper to add new solar power to the grid and for Americans to install solar panels on their rooftops – lowering costs for utilities and saving families money on the front end and on energy payments for years to come. This is part of President Biden’s broader strategy to reduce costs in key expenses like energy, prescription drugs, and health care.

At 1:30 PM, Secretary Yellen will tour the Suniva solar cell manufacturing plant. Suniva is a U.S.-based solar cell manufacturer headquartered in Norcoss, Georgia, and one of the first solar cell manufacturers to open in North America. In 2017, Suniva closed its Norcross, Georgia manufacturing plant due in large part to cheap imports flooding the market. However, due in part to IRA incentives to onshore clean energy manufacturing and use U.S. produced components in new clean power projects Suniva is restarting solar cell manufacturing in the coming weeks. This event is open to pre-credentialed media. Media interested should RSVP to grady.thomson@treasury.gov.

At 2:30 PM, Secretary Yellen will deliver remarks following her tour at Suniva. This event is open press. Media interested in covering these remarks should RSVP to grady.thomson@treasury.gov. A livestream of Secretary Yellen’s remarks will be available here.
